Helgeslutt

Skoleavisen går i trykken 31. Mai.

Feeling the blues

Kom igjen. GO, go, go.

Cousin from India

We had the great honour to have my husbands cousin with the most wonderful wife and their adorable son for lunch.
They recently moved to Europe, and spend the weekend in Paris.
We were so exited to meet them, as we never have met them before.

The two youngest in the Choudhury family.
One from Norway and the other from India.
Our youngest son and their son had a lot in common.

We had to show them "our" Champ de Mars - of course.

They were such nice people, and we are so happy to get to know this wonderful family. We already look forward to see them again, wherever in the world that might be.

Oldest son with cousin and his beautiful wife

My husbands cousin and his wife was kind enough to tell us more about our family in India, and patiently answered all our questions about uncles and cousins, where they live and how they are doing.
It was a memorable day which we will never forget.
Thank you so much for taking your time to visit us!

Pentecôte, Pinse

We are lucky to have a nice restaurant in our building, Luna. Today was one of those days we did not want to bring take-aways, did not want to cook, did not fancy the idea of "going out" to have dinner. The perfect solution was to pop downstairs.

Especially nice when oldest son want to join us. Usually he is to busy with his friends when we go out for something to eat. Today was different. Youngest son has bought his old game boy, and the two of them have no time to study the menu.

On the other side of the table my other two boys are very into the menu.

Tomorrow we will have very special guests for lunch. I will make sure my camera is loaded and by my side so I can share it with you.

Bon soir!

Safari in Zambia:

There are 6 weeks left before summer vacation, and we still do not know if we are moving to Norway, staying in Paris or moving back to Africa!

Oh well - what's the hurry...

Anyway, it made me look through some photos I would like to share with you.
Enjoy!

Christmas 2005 we went to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia

"Experts have dubbed South Luangwa as one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, and not without reason. The concentration of game around the Luangwa river and it’s ox bow lagoons is among the most intense in Africa"

On the road from Malawi to Mfuwe Game reserve. Oldest son asked us to stop the car, in the middle of the bush, on the dirt road. He saw a turtle. We were happy just to stop and look at it from the window. But before we new it he was out of the car to grab the turtle.
I was more anxious about what else could be lurking around in the bush - much bigger and much stronger than a turtle!

So I had to go out of the car as well to protect my child...

Finally there. Youngest son sitting patiently in the reception waiting for the keys. Wondering why the reception was this enormous. Huge doors and high ceilings.

Well, this was the answer

How cool is that!
They built the reception were the elephants had their naturally pathway. So they made the reception big enough both for the guests AND the elephants. This was not a daily sight and we did not see them walking through the reception, but we did see them passing our lodge

Click on the photo to see the elephants

We had Richard as our regular guide for our daily game drives.

He had dinner at our table every night, and told the most incredible stories. He was born in the area and his sister was taken by a hyena...

From the game drive. We could see the crocodiles in this river. You can to, if you click on the photo. It was hard se them when they did not move.  I do not like crocodiles very much...

This guy is ok. I do not mind him at all!

I think our dear middle son is watching the wild boar.
You know, Pumba

"It's our problem-free philosophy, Hakuna Matata!"

They were so cool! Running around, chasing each other - just for fun. They show absolutely no elegance at all, but are so funny. And curious. You can see it in the picture above. They stop for a minute to look at us, and then they start running around again and enjoyng every moment of the day.
I like them:-)

After driving around watching Lions, Zebras, Giraffes and monkeys,
we came to this surprise

The Mfuwe Lodge had made a lunch for us in the middle of the bush. Next to the crocodiles and hippos. With lions, snakes and leopards around us.

But they left us alone (thank you dear God!) And we enjoyed the most wonderful and memorable lunch ever.

A warm youngest son watching the Zebras. I like Zebras:-)

And the Giraffes. OMG they are SO TALL!!! But I like them to...

I do not like the Hippos. They are vegetarians, but they kill anything - just for fun.
"The hippopotamus is one of the most aggressive creatures in the world and is often regarded as the most ferocious animal in Africa"

After seeing most of the animals during daylight, our guide kindly asks us if we wanted to go for a game drive - by night to try to find the leopards.
After only a few meters into the bush and the dark was so black that we could not see anything else than the spotlight that our guide held to look after the leopard, I could not do it anymore. Here I was in the darkest night ever, with my three children, in a car with no doors, windows or roof, among the lions, Hippos, Hyenas, Crocodiles and snakes - looking for the leopard in the treetops obove our heads...

So I said STOP! You need to take us home NOW! The guide asked my husband if I was joking, which he could confirm I was not.

So me and the two youngest boys and my mother went home, while my dad, husband and oldest son went back in to the bush...

And they DID see the Leopard!

Good Night, and Hakuna Matata!

17th of May in Malawi 2006:

17th of May in Oslo 2010. We were not there.

The Norwegian Constitution Day is the National Day of Norway and is an official national holiday on May 17th each year. Norwegians celebrate this day no matter where they are in the world.
These pictures are from Malawi in 2006:

Oldest son had the honour to hoist the Norwegian flag

Marching down the streets of Malawi

Hipp, hipp, HURRRRRAAAAAAYYYY

All the names of the Norwegian children living in Lilongwe

We used a cassette recorder as our marching band. Worked out brilliantly!

"Hvor hen du går i li og fjell..." Norwegian 17th of May-song.

Entertainment

A Malawian dance group helped us with the entertainment. They were amazing. I wish I could share it with you. They give 100% and it is impossible not to be taken by their performance. They sing and make those impressive sounds with their voice and tongue, the rhythm is in their entire body non stop, and the drums - I could listen to the drums forever!

A different rhythm than the marching band

Youngest son is warm and finished wearing his shirt for today

Oldest son is also loosening up the outfit

My to men is calling it the day

The children chill down before heading home

In the evening of our constitution day we were invited to the ambassadors house (together with about 150 other people)

My handsome husband at the ambassadors entrance

They had rented an orchestra which played lovely in the background

Abseloutely silence from the 150 guests whent the orchestra played the national anthem  "Ja vi elsker"

. Free drinks and fingerfood in the bar!

Thank you for a wonderful evening. As you can see, we all are VERY happy and satisfied:-)
